In a city that hosts a week long festival leading up to the start of the Iditarod, it’s easy to see that dog sledding is still a pretty big deal. You might not be able to participate in what is billed as the Last Great Race. But, you can get a feel for what it’s like to race across Alaska’s frozen tundra on a glacier dog sledding tour with Alpine Air Alaska. A helicopter takes you 3,200 feet above sea level to Punch Bowl Glacier; where you’ll learn what it takes to be a champion sled dog before settling back and letting the dogs pull you around the scenic glacier.
