What’s unique about San Diego?
We are unique in San Diego because we wear flip-flops year round. The best weather in the U.S. is found in San Diego. With 150 days of sunshine, 112 days of partly cloudy skies and less than 10 inches of rain a year, makes it the perfect vacations spot any time of the year. We have the best fish tacos in the U.S., and we are one of the best beer destinations in the world! Could it possibly get any better than flip flops, fish tacos and beer?!
We also have the unique ability in the winter to start the morning in the cold, snowy mountains near Julian and be at an 80-degree beach for lunch…all in the same day.
Local Customs:
Wear flip flops and drink craft beer, and you’ll fit in just fine! San Diego is pretty easy going, and laid-back, and happily welcomes tourists from all over the world. You’ll feel like a local once you’ve had a fish taco, San Diego’s official dish.
Ask any San Diegan where the best fish taco is, and you’ll get a million different answers. The key is finding your favorite. Get it fried or grilled, with white sauce or not, and corn or flour tortilla. The choice is yours.
Where do the locals hang out?
San Diego is divided up into very distinct neighborhoods, like Kensington, Normal Heights, University Heights, North Park, South Park, and Barrio Logan, to name a few. While there are plenty of fantastic hangouts citywide, you’ll mostly find locals in any of these ‘hoods enjoying their favorites.
The North Park area of San Diego is home to popular local watering holes like Ritual Tavern and True North; as well as some amazing food at restaurants like Urban Solace, Waypoint Public and Carnita’s Snack Shack. There are also a ton of fun stores in which to shop.
South Park is popular with the well-to-do millennials, with its proximity to some of San Diego’s best restaurants and bar including Eclipse Chocolates (pick up a box of truffles after you enjoy an indulgent brunch), Whistle Stop Bar (one of few dive bars in the area), and Cafe Madeleine.
