SELDEN STANDARD

Taking a risk in a city that is embracing a comeback like you’ve never seen before, Selden Standard embodies the changing tide of Detroit in every way. It was opened in an abandoned, graffiti-covered dry cleaner on a forgotten corner in Midtown in 2015. Rising to the challenge in a way that speaks to the spirit of rising from the ashes, it was voted 2015 Restaurant of the Year by the Detroit Free Press. This is the place to go when you’re in the mood for a culinary experience you’ll be talking about for months afterward. The decor is minimal but stylish and works perfectly to keep the focus on the amazing food. Make reservations up to a month in advance or walk in and enjoy cocktails at the bar while you wait. (Make sure to arrive well before you want to eat if you go this route as wait times are often close to two hours on weekend evenings.) The focus is on small plates featuring local, seasonal fare. Try the Charred Octopus and Lamb Ragu- they will not disappoint! Dress is upscale casual and prices reflect the quality of the experience. Be prepared to spend a little more than average. Selden Standard is a place you won’t soon forget and is well worth the splurge!
